Biology of Human

Biomedical research is transforming our understanding of the processes that affect human health and well-being. The Biology of Human SEPA project focuses on helping youth and adults understand themselves by exploring scientific principles that underlie modern research in human biology.

Learn how communities of microbes share our bodies and shape our genomes.

* Microbe Maniacs Sticker Book.  Meet some microbes – bacteria, viruses, fungi, and archaea – that live inside the human body. Our bodies are home to more microbes than human cells.  The balance of helpful to harmful microbes in our bodies can make us sick or healthy. This free sticker book introduces some common microbes that live inside us.

*Linda Allison’s book of Mouth Microbes. Author of the acclaimed activity book, “Blood and Guts,” Linda Allison, is creating a new book for the Biology of Human Project:

“Did you know that you have more microbes in your mouth than there are people on earth? It’s quite natural to have zillions of microbes living on you and in you. Most of them do you no harm and many of them do you good. It is no wonder the inside of your mouth is home base to a myriad of happy microbes –it’s deliciously dark, toasty warm, and constantly washed with a moist solution of dissolved foodstuffs. It is a heavenly habitat for a millions of tiny life forms.”
